Friends of Foster Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth in the foster care system. Though we are based in Macomb County we serve children in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne County and beyond. Since 2008, we have provided holiday gifts, high school graduation packages, essential items, and year-round programs that promote stability, independence, and hope. Our mission is to ensure that every child feels valued, supported, and prepared for a brighter future.
The 5 C's of Friends of Foster Kids - How We Help
Christmas
Friends of Foster Kids provides Christmas for foster children in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties—fulfilling each child’s wish list with new, lovingly wrapped gifts delivered in time for the holiday.
Care
Friends of Foster Kids provides essential items such as shoes, coats, clothing, pjs, and blankets for foster children removed from their homes, as well as basic necessities for older youth transitioning to independent living.
College
Friends of Foster Kids provides storage containers filled with school supplies and essentials to help foster youth transition into dorm life, trade school or independent living. We provide up to 3 annual scholarships through ongoing support from our Angel Network.
Careers
Friends of Foster Kids’ Youth Support Program is developing mentoring, training, and life skills workshops to strengthen social skills, etiquette, and confidence, while connecting foster youth with meaningful employment opportunities.
Coalition of community commitment
FOFK is recruiting teams of professionals to share their skills and services to directly benefit foster children. Are you interested in improving the life of a foster youth aging out of the system?

🎅 Christmas wish sponsors are still needed—and you may be wondering, “How does this work?”
We’ve included a example of child’s wish list so you can see what they asked for. A child and their caseworker complete the form, then it comes to Friends of Foster Kids. As individuals, families, and groups sign up to sponsor, we match them with a list. ❤️

But we also know many of these children may not receive birthday gifts or have everyday essentials like a new coat, boots, pants, shirts, pajamas, or hygiene items. If your budget allows, we ask you to consider adding some of those necessities alongside their three wishes.
💙 Please remember our teens, too. They’re often the last to be chosen because their wishes can cost more. Like any teenager, they want to fit in with their peers and have something special of their own. We’re happy to match you with whatever age you choose, but our older kids need Christmas angels, too.
📅 Please return gifts to our center around November 4 so our wrapping teams have time to get everything wrapped and ready.
We’ve also included a photo of what one volunteer chose for the child she sponsored—a heartfelt example of the care that goes into these gifts. Every list and every sponsor’s budget is different, and we’re grateful for every act of kindness.
Year after year, we’re humbled by the love our community shows these children. You’re giving more than presents. You’re helping a child feel seen, cared about, and reminded that they matter. ❤️

Today, we were delighted to receive a sizable donation from **Five Below in Troy* 🎁 This generous business has been a regular supporter of Friends of Foster Kids, and the children are the ones who benefit!
Our volunteers literally “shop” through these donated items, looking for extras that match each child’s age, favorite colors, and interests. Yes, we ask about those on the intake sheets! 😊 Those details help us make each package feel more personal.
