Happy Abbeyversary Sherwood Brewing Company celebrates 10 years of craft goodness
ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BY HOUR DETROIT — AUGUST 4, 2016
Sherwood Brewing Company will celebrate 10 years of craft beer with a special “Abbeyversary” event on Aug. 20. Starting at 4 p.m. and throughout the evening, there will be several special releases of Sherwood’s “Abbey” ales.
The event is actually two parties in one. The 5th Annual WoodFest will be going on in the main tent in conjunction with the Abbeyversary. WoodFest is a celebration of the local relationships Sherwood Brewing has developed over the years. Local food, musicians, and vendors will also be on hand.
Sherwood Brewing Company, or “The Wood” to the regulars, has been brewing and selling their “obnoxiously unpretentious beers” since Aug. 31, 2006. They also serve locally sourced “elevated pub grub.”
Owners Ray Sherwood, Lisa Sherwood, and Corey Paul are more laid back about things than other breweries. The focus has always been on local relationships and experiencing life.
“The anniversary party is a celebration of how we do things; it’s about having fun and enjoying good food. It’s not about pushing a bottle in front of collectors,” says Ray.
“We’ve spent the past 10 years making and strengthening our connections to the community,” says Lisa. “Whether it’s fundraising for a local cause, networking to support local businesses, or donating to school and community events, Sherwood Brewing Company is instrumental in helping others.”
One example of their community involvement is the annual Presents for Pints. Each holiday season, customers trade wishes (gifts) for beer and pizza, and local children benefit.
“We choose a charity each November and gather their wish list,” Lisa says. “Last year we adopted 25 kids from Friends of Foster Kids and were able to obtain every item on every wish list. Our customers look forward to P4P every year.”
