Girl Donates Birthday Money to Purchase Toys for Foster Kids

What a generous little girl! Last year, she and her family helped at Friends of Foster Kids and it truly touched her heart. It made such an impression on  her that she took the money she received for her birthday and bought toys for the foster kids! A special thank you to our special angels for your donations.

FOFK provides Christmas for foster children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect and placed in temporary housing or shelters. FOFK fulfills each child’s wish list with new items wrapped with care and then works to ensure timely delivery for Christmas.

If you would like to find out how you can make a difference in the life of a foster child at Christmas, please contact us at info@friendsoffosterkids.org and stay connected with us year round on social media, Follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook!

Spirit of Christmas! “Thirteen fifty three”

For 2016, we are excited to report, over thirteen hundred fifty three foster children felt the impact of your generosity and caring! It is breathtaking to realize that each and every child can believe they matter, as they receive a Christmas made especially for them, by Angels like you! Thank you…Thank you…Thank you!!!

Hats off to Grads!

In April, we kickoff our Hats off to Grads program. This program is designed to assist graduate foster kids transition into college dorm life or independent living. Imagine moving from house to house and school to school, without the love and support of a stable family environment, or reliable friends. Yet, each of these graduates had the fortitude to achieve academic success, while coping with these insurmountable odds. Recognizing their extraordinary accomplishment is paramount.

Please email us at info@friendsoffosterkids.org to sponsor a graduate’s list of needs.
Together we are changing lives…one child at a time!

Hats off to Grads Class of 2017

We kick off the program for graduates from Macomb and Oakland counties in April and then by June 9th, the collections will be sorted/ organized for a one-time distribution at their June celebration.

Sponsoring a graduate entails purchasing specific items that the graduate would need, it can vary from graduate to graduate depending if they will be going to college, starting a trade school or setting up independent living. Along with receiving a bio on the graduate you will receive their wish list stating the items they will need. Items could range from graphing calculators, bedding, mini fridges and microwaves to personal care items, household items, laundry and cleaning supplies to storage bins.

Donors can sponsor a graduate on their own or with family members, friends or group of friends! Through out the year some donors have also purchased generic items such as the storage bins and linens as they find them on sale.

Friends of Foster Kids August 2016 Newsletter

A Note from the Founder:

Being our inaugural Newsletter, I felt it only fitting that we begin by expressing our sincere “Gratitude” for your continued

support. We recognize that you, our donors, are the life blood of this organization. It is through your caring, commitment and

generosity that ensures the success of this program. You truly are Angels!

Looking back through the years I’ve watched this organization grow. Helping us to spread the word, you are making smiles happen and bringing joy into the lives of our local foster children. Witnessing the love that passes from our donors, showing a child they do matter, speaks volumes. Together we are able to impact the lives of so many of our local foster children.

Currently we are wrapping up our Hats Off to Grads Program, providing our foster children with the tools and necessities they need to set up for living independently and beginning their college life. Without the support of a family, we can always count on you to step in.

Together we are changing lives…one child at a time!

Never underestimate the difference you can make in the lives of others ~ Pablo

Happy Abbeyversary Sherwood Brewing Company celebrates 10 years of craft goodness

Happy Abbeyversary Sherwood Brewing Company celebrates 10 years of craft goodness

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BY HOUR DETROIT — AUGUST 4, 2016

Sherwood Brewing Company will celebrate 10 years of craft beer with a special “Abbeyversary” event on Aug. 20. Starting at 4 p.m. and throughout the evening, there will be several special releases of Sherwood’s “Abbey” ales.

The event is actually two parties in one. The 5th Annual WoodFest will be going on in the main tent in conjunction with the Abbeyversary. WoodFest is a celebration of the local relationships Sherwood Brewing has developed over the years. Local food, musicians, and vendors will also be on hand.

Sherwood Brewing Company, or “The Wood” to the regulars, has been brewing and selling their “obnoxiously unpretentious beers” since Aug. 31, 2006. They also serve locally sourced “elevated pub grub.”

Owners Ray Sherwood, Lisa Sherwood, and Corey Paul are more laid back about things than other breweries. The focus has always been on local relationships and experiencing life.

“The anniversary party is a celebration of how we do things; it’s about having fun and enjoying good food. It’s not about pushing a bottle in front of collectors,” says Ray.

“We’ve spent the past 10 years making and strengthening our connections to the community,” says Lisa. “Whether it’s fundraising for a local cause, networking to support local businesses, or donating to school and community events, Sherwood Brewing Company is instrumental in helping others.”

One example of their community involvement is the annual Presents for Pints. Each holiday season, customers trade wishes (gifts) for beer and pizza, and local children benefit.

“We choose a charity each November and gather their wish list,” Lisa says. “Last year we adopted 25 kids from Friends of Foster Kids and were able to obtain every item on every wish list. Our customers look forward to P4P every year.”
